SPRINT ENGINEERING & LUBRICANTS LIMITED
"By working closely with MP Filtri and using our joint experience and knowledge, we have helped the authority to tackle contamination problems head on and helped protect their capital investment in machinery.”

Customer Profile
Based in Kent, Sprint has more than 30 years’ experience in quality maintenance, repair and overhaul operations and is a trusted supplier to the Waste to Energy sector.
Sprint turned to MP Filtri as a specialist in contamination control and asked the company to explore long-term cost-effective solutions for the Waste Authority.

The challenge
When a turbine broke down unexpectedly at a major Waste to Energy plant in the UK, the stakes were high. In addition to costly repairs, the equipment failure instantly cut capacity by 25 per cent and vast amounts of waste had to be sent by train to an alternative site for processing – adversely impacting productivity for months.

The solution
MP Filtri’s Product Manager Geoff Grant and Area Sales Manager Matthew Kirchin worked closely with Sprint to create a package which would not only maintain the current turbines at maximum effectiveness, but also allow the Waste Authority to see an accurate and detailed analysis of real-time contamination levels around the clock.
MP Filtri and Sprint installed LMP400 3 micron pressure filters to each of its turbines to handle weekly flushing procedures and to keep the hydraulic oil free from contamination.
And to prevent future downtime and provide the customer with early warning of potential problems, MP Filtri also provided four ICM 2.0 devices.
These state-of-the-art particle counters deliver comprehensive hydraulic health-checks 24/7 for each turbine and enable the Waste Authority to customise contamination alarm levels - preventing problems before they arise, protecting expensive and complex machinery, and dramatically reducing unplanned downtime.

Customer’s verdict
Sprint has been delighted with the early results and has already asked MP Filtri to quote for an additional LPA3 portable particle counter. Its Engineering Director Gary Smith said:
“Downtime in this sector is very costly and damaging. By working closely with MP Filtri and using our joint experience and knowledge, we have helped the authority to tackle contamination problems head on and helped protect their capital investment in machinery.”
